ATECH  Application Technology Limited

presents a 5 day course:

Petroleum Production Engineering

Who should attend and why?

This school is intended for engineers, technologists and geoscientists who wish to develop a solid understanding of factors governing the performance of a production system.  Participants will learn how to use diagnostic tools such as production logging, well testing, and inflow-outflow analysis to evaluate the capacity of a production system and recognize opportunities for improving profitability, as well as to capitalize on these opportunities through the design of completion and stimulation programs. The topics will be dealt with in a practical manner utilizing real life examples to illustrate and reinforce concepts.  Participants will work on PC’s using modern production engineering software to solve practical problems.

Course Content:

The following topics will be presented:

·                 reservoir rock and fluid properties

·                 production logging

·                 wellbore mechanics and methods of completion

·                 formation damage and the components of skin

·                 reservoir performance modeling

·                 perforating

·                 wellbore performance modeling

·                 methods of stimulation

·                 well testing and analysis

·                 methods of artificial lift

·                 inflow-outflow analysis

·                 system evaluation and optimization

Course Instructors:

Professor Bruce Milne, P.Eng. Dr.Milne’s Achievements and academic credentials include:

Associate Professor, University of Calgary, Canada

University of Calgary, Canada - B.Sc. (Chemical & Petroleum), 1984.

University of Calgary, Canada - Ph.D. (Chemical & Petroleum), 1994.

Dr. Milne is a Technical Associate with ATECH and an Adjunct Professor of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering at the University of Calgary, where he teaches production engineering and surface facilities design.  Previously he was a professor at the University of Saskatchewan, and a production engineer with Amoco Canada.  His expertise is in the areas of multi-phase processes and production technology.  His consultancy has focused on production systems optimization and international oil & gas training.

Mr. Joseph Kenny, P.Eng.  Mr. Kenny’s achievements and academic credentials include:

President, ATECH

University of Calgary, Canada - M.Eng. (Chemical & Petroleum), 1993.

University of London, England - M.Sc. (Civil), 1979.

Imperial College, London, England - D.I.C., 1979.

University College Galway, Ireland - B.E. (Civil), 1978.

Mr. Kenny is a registered Professional Engineer and has been practicing in the petroleum industry for over 20 years.  He has been involved in the evaluation of oil and gas fields from all the major regions of petroleum activity in the world, and is a recognized expert in the integration of multidisciplinary techniques to optimize hydrocarbon recovery.

What to bring:

As the basis of this course, the best selling publication, "Petroleum Production Systems", by Michael J. Economides, A. Daniel Hill and Christine Ehlig-Economides will be provided.  Modern production engineering software tools will be demonstrated throughout the course.  The course participants will also solve problems on PC’s utilizing this software technology.
